Milo and Clack: An Elvin Love Story
Part XV Unprovoked Attack
General Olcarlamon
Thunder claps echoed through the camp and I knew instantly that Atticon had been notified of the council summons. He seldom even acknowledged King Repratian’s guard, and never with these kinds of threats.
We understood clearly he only left us alone because it was still in his best interest to do so. Even the monarchy were bound by the laws of the Elvin Clans.
The lightning that accompanied the thunder had bounced off our shields, but using so much power to feed the king had made the shields weaker than they normally would’ve been. The shocks had hit each of us.
“Damn! Lieutenant, check the young ones…” I yelled. “Make sure none need medical attention.”
“Yes sir,” she said before dashing away from her post outside my tent.
I closed my eyes focusing my mind on my mate, Litlebeiah.
“Are you okay?” I projected my question through our telepathic connection.
“Mostly, I’m with the healer.” She projected back.
“Good, I’ll come your way, I need advice on protocol.”
She didn’t respond, which meant she was in pain. Damn that fool Atticon. If I wasn’t already in King Repratian’s guard, I would be a convert now. The unprovoked attack deserved to be discussed in the council. Unfortunately, to do so would likely have the opposite effect of what convening the council was supposed to have. Peace as the two kings duked it out.
No, I couldn’t confront the son of a bitch for this or any of his other attacks, but I could do one better. I'd keep King Repratian alive and well until he was ready to take on the nasty overlord, and with a little luck, overthrown him.
